Good Eats: ECCO Trattoria

Love Italian? You’ll love Ecco, 1167 Main St, Weymouth, MA. Claire and I went there for the first time with a couple of clients, now friends who frequent here.  We had sold their amazingly well kept colonial home (in three days, over asking!), they’re relocating to a small town outside of Buffalo, NY. We were humbled to celebrate his last day at work and their last dinner at their favorite eatery, ECCO. Waiting in a wraparound booth of plush leather seating, on a windswept rainy evening, our experience began.
The atmosphere is classy, nice, lots of rich, dark wood, tall ceilings and an open layout. We started off with drinks from the bar. Looking for a scotch on the rocks, the menu showed me that I had a choice of at least 15, if not more, flavors to choose from. For Starters, we enjoyed four side salads with warm crusty rolls. Claire and I had the Caesar which had just the right amount of dressing. For my entrée, I opted for the chicken parmesan. The portion size was impressive, very generous. (I took home 1/3 of my meal) Nice and crispy, almost crunchy on the edges, the way I like it. The Northern style sauce was very good, not acidic or overly garlicy, spiced perfectly for the chicken. Not “sweet” like Sicilian style, the American habit probably bequeathed by the legions of Sicilian immigrants.  I like my penne, actually all my pasta, “al dente”. This was, unfortunately, not the case, but not a major deficit.

” if you use the best ingredients, keep the menu creative, and place the customers’ experience at the forefront of the business then people will keep coming back.”…Owner and chef Edgar DeLeon

For desert, we all enjoyed “coffee and cannoli’s”, the choice desert many diners enjoy at Mike’s or Modern Pastry in the North End.  These were the best cannoli’s I have ever had! Hands down!  Crunchy sweet, the ricotta was creamy and smooth, not overpowering the fresh, crispy golden fried shell.
The wait staff were attentive, fast, friendly, helpful, there when you need them and unnoticed when you don’t. Our waiter for the evening had a slight resemblance to Keifer Sutherland and endured our teasing graciously. The prices for most entrees were high teens to low twenties. All in all, we had a great dinner. Claire and I can’t wait to go back. Try it, you’ll love it!
